In order to make the realistic CG squirrel perform in a live action environment, the timings and actions of the animal were blocked out by the boutiq team during pre-vis. After analyzing reams of squirrel footage to understand how these creatures moved, our animators lovingly key framed the squirrel into life. Various simulations were created to add realistic fur (over 6 million hairs) and muscle movements to the animation. Shot on location we added lots of 3D plant extensions during post production to simulate seemless interaction between the squirrel and the environment. Our goal was to make a humorous spot, and make the film look as believable as possible, since the squirrel and the “exploding” flowers our entirely computer generated.

The Mountainmania merchandising and album is a huge success at Migros retail stores. Director Mike Huber collaborated with illustrator Michael Meister on this commercial using a playful mixture of hand painted cells and photorealistic 2D/3D background plates. The film was commissioned by Wirz Werbung.

TBWA and Campari gave us the great opportunity to come up with a fresh, graphic story, so we took the chance to mix 2/3 good old new typographic style with 1/3 expression, and a shot of sparkling freshness. On ice and with a slice of creativity it’s the perfect serve of motion design.

Melectronics is Migros’ hugely successful consumer electronics sub-brand in Switzerland. Agency Inhalt & Form commissioned boutiq to do a sequel to their initial parrot campaign. The brief this time was to adapt the spot to the fast-paced-hard-sell melectronics discount world. Score and sound design were provided by Balz Bachmann and Peter Bräker.

We designed and produced a series of idents for the new reality cooking show “Ab in die Küche” airing on National Swiss Television and sponsered by Betty Bossi. The motto of the show is straightforward: Anybody can cook. The 20-second opener showcases Masterchefs Françoise Wicki and Torsten Götz, which we shot in studio during a hot cooking session. Our CG-artists added vegetables and boiling water into the steam pot. Bon appetit!

The initial pitch brief by agency Ogilvy was to convince the client (Nestlé) that we do a food commercial without shooting a single frame of film. We generated a 7 second test animation rendered in 3D featuring jumping bouncing photorealistic raspberries. The result ended up being quite a departure from what Nestlé had been doing previously. When a client hears ‘animated’ they usually think Pixar, so it’s important to show them there’s other ways to approach storytelling – especially with their budget in mind.
